Many times parents and children have strong opinions on seeing or watching parents engage in affection. Some would even say its wrong or harmful to children. This write up will discuss this issue and hopefully help you in deciding for yourself. It is not our goal to change your view to the view of the Author. Its meant to give the viewpoint of the Author which you can dismiss, should you wish.
Parents and Children are Not Roommates
Many children shout “EWWWW” at the site or thought of their parents engaging in PDA and some would even say it harmful to children. Where I agree certain acts of affection (like sexual foreplay) should not be seen by a child and could even be illegal. However if a child is to learn about love and family that lesson starts at home. Parents are not roomates! Nor should they act like roommates! A warm hug kiss even playful swat on the rear are all acts of affection that is important for a child to see. “Important” you say? Yes because it teaches the child about love and kindness. TV and movies (evn love stories) dont teach children about love. Too often a TV show or movie traches a child live is about sex or some other motive not about love, understanding and affection. Life lessons come from home!
Importance of a Child’s Feeling of Love and Affection
A child seeing their parents engage in love and affection learn how to love better. It also builds the family unit as a loving close nit family. Parents you must be aware that your children watch you constantly and learn life skills and attitudes from you. If you want your child to be a good, friend, partner etc they learn their fists lessons from you. If your child sees his/parents as more roomate than life partners then they may not be a good partner themself. People need love and affection and its important a child learns this at very young age. Once again your child should not see you engage in foreplay. However I personally encourge all parents to make sure your child sees you and your partner engage in acts of affection. It can be as simple as a kiss goodbye in morning or the like. Nothing long or sexy just simple acts of affection. Even simple playful acts will show your child you two care for each other. In turn they learn about love from you not the TV or movies.
