I am writing this so users of this board can know the truth (as I see it) about Disney’s Fast Pass used at Disney theme parks. I also hope you tell others and pass on this post. I am “The_Discounter and can be found on ParentNook forums http://www.parentnook.com/forum/ where I give advice on how to save or make money. Today I want to talk about the reality (again as I see it) of Disney’s Fast Pass and if its really a good thing or just a trick. I plan to give examples to back up my claims
Here is how the “Fast Pass” works. On rides that except Fast pass (major rides like Pirates, Indiana Jones, Haunted Mansion and the like) you go to a booth Or stand in line at booth and insert your ticket you scanned at admission gate. The machine will then dispense a Fast pass ticket with a time window on it. Example you arrive at ride around noon and your ticket will have a time window that simulates your wait in line. So if wait is estimated at 1 hour your time window from noon will be around 1:00PM to 2:00PM approx. You cannot use ticket before or after this time window. In theory this allows you to enjoy park during that hour instead of standing in line. Sounds great right? Maybe not read on…
First off let me tell you that when you arrive at ride with your Fast Pass ticket so are others and some of those time windows will cross. You will NOT likely just walk on ride. The ride operators will take some Fast pass users and some who are in line. Its possible you might had gotten on ride sooner had you stood in line. Remember other Fast pass users are entering same as you and their time windows might cross yours. Example your time window is 1:00PM to 2:00PM but others could be 1:30PM to 2:30PM or other time crossings. You could wait an additional 10 minutes or more than you would have had you stood in line. Not looking so good now? Read on…
What will you do with that hour they gave you that you do not need to stand in line? Ride another ride? I doubt it. The wait for almost any ride will likely take you past your time window and you will miss ride you have Fast pass ticket for. Now you could go eat lunch so there is that benefit. You could also browse stores, Disney would love this. Yes by all means browse stores and purchased the overpriced items you can get for nearly half the price at Walmart or Target. Your not going to get any extra rides using Fast pass for this reason and another I will mention later. There is not much you can do with this time but hey its better than standing in line. Especially for Disney! Oh yes especially for Disney. You go buy their overpriced items for sale or their overpriced food with little taste or effort made in preparing it. Example a Hamburger is meat and bun you do the rest! Ok I mentioned your not going to get extra rides right? Read on…
You can only get one Fast Pass per time window. Yep so if you have a Fast pass for Haunted Mansion you cannot go get another for Pirates until time window expires or you use Fast Pass.. Now if they allowed this it would be great time saver but they do not. So if you have Fast Pass (still not sure its fast) for Haunted Mansion with a time window of 1:00PM to 2:00PM you cannot get one for Pirates or any ride until 2:01PM. Which restarts process discussed above.
Now to be fair there is no extra charge for this feature but then you already paid nearly $100.00 just to walk in door. The Disney Fast pass is not as good as Disney wants you to think. There is no real benefit to using it and it saves you no time unless your eating or shopping. then it can be useful. No my friends I call the BS card on Disney’ Fast Pass as it serves no real useful purpose (in my view) to park customers. Its a PR ploy (again my view) by Disney to make guest think they are doing something for them. Don’t fall for this Disney dupe! Other parks have a front of the line option. It cost extra but there is no time window and as it says you go straight to the front of the line! Worth the extra money in my view! Thank you for your time
DISNEY GREED CONTINUES!
Disney theme parks are experimenting with new “FastPass+. Of course they will charge you for this! It allows you to reserve your spot on a ride up to six months before you arrive! You can make up to 3 reservations at one time with a one hour time window to use them. Sound good? Its not lets break it down and look again. Unless in high season you can ride anywhere from 1 to 3 rides inside an hour anyways. Our user The_Discounter talks about this in his topic in discount area of this site. Now we don’t know what Disney is going to charge for this but will it be worth it? They already charge nearly $100.00 just to walk in the gates! Ok so you buy this FastPass+ You are now forced to ride these rides inside this time window or lose it. I doubt there is a refund if you fail to meet window. What if you go and the lines are shorter than you thought? Will Disney refund you? Not likely and if they did you would likely have to take time from your day to visit a customer service location to get refund. Have you ever been to the customer service area of any theme park? Its very busy so plan to be there a while. Now what if you can reserve more than three rides? Ok do you want your day to be about ensuring you meet all time windows as you rush about? What if the rides are in different parts of park? Unless your 20 something or younger this will take a lot out of you. By the way what are you going to do with all these tickets or whatever you need to use new FastPass+ system. More to carry and not lose. Will you have time to eat, use restroom or, even take a break without losing time window? I am just touching base here but I see this as just more Disney greed! If they really wanted to make this about customer service and not money they would do like Universal Hollywood and Knotts who has system that puts you in front of any line at any time! No time windows or select attractions only. There are other perks as well. Just more Disney greed and one more reason to BOYCOTT DISNEY THEME PARKS!
